Portland descended into chaos Saturday night amid nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations, with violent clashes breaking out between rioters and federal agents outside the city’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility yet again.

The second annual “No Kings Day” brought thousands of protesters to downtown Portland, many of whom later marched to the ICE building after the main rally at Waterfront Park concluded. The scene quickly turned violent as rioters clashed with federal agents, prompting the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd.

According to KPTV, at least one person was booked into jail, and two others were detained by early evening. Portland police later reported three arrests. One suspect was charged with assault and harassment, another with assault, and a third with a bias crime and harassment.

Counter-protesters were present at the scene. Conservative journalist Nick Sortor, who was detained by Portland police outside the ICE facility weeks earlier and later released, captured footage of the confrontation as federal agents deployed tear gas on rioters attacking officers.

“It’s only 4 p.m., and ‘protestors’ are ALREADY getting violent,” Sortor posted on X. “WE NEED NATIONAL GUARD!”

Footage from the scene also showed transgender-identifying Antifa militant Michelle “Michael” Backes sucker-punching a pro-ICE counter-protester outside the facility. Backes was later charged for the assault. Backes was previously revealed to have been delivering riot supplies outside the ICE building.

The ICE building has remained a frequent battleground for anti-ICE demonstrations in Portland, particularly following President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize the Oregon National Guard in response to unrest in the city. The order was later challenged in court and temporarily paused by a judge, allowing guardsmen to be federalized but not deployed.
